What is Aloe Vera?
Often called the ‘Miracle Plant’ or the ‘Natural Healer’, Aloe Vera is a plant of many surprises.
It flourishes in warm and dry climates, and many people mistake it for a cactus, but , in fact, it is a member of the Lily family. Ancient records show that the benefits of Aloe Vera have been known for centuries. Its therapeutic advantages and healing properties have survived more than 5,000 years.

Ingredients in the Aloe vera Leaf:
Vitamins - It contains a wide range - but most important are the anti oxidants C and E and Beta Carotene. It also has one of the few plant sources in the world of vitamin B12
Minerals - These include magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, chromium, calcium, sodium, potassium and iron
Amino Acids - The human body requires 22 amino acids, the building blocks of protein and Aloe Vera Gel provides 20 of them.
Sugars - These include the important long chain polysaccharides which boost the effect of the immune system. Enzymes - Lipases and proteases which break down food and the aid digestion as well as carboxypepidase that is involved in the nflammatory process.
Plant Sterols - The tree main types act as powerful anti-inflammatory agents.
Lignin - This woody substance bestows on Aloe Vera its penetrative ability to reach deep into the skin.
Saponins - These are soapy substance that exert a powerful anti-microbial effect against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and yeasts such as candida or thrush.
Anthraquinones - The most important ones being aloin and emodin, but altogether they are strong pain killers. In their pure form, they are powerful laxatives.
Salicylic Acid - This asprin-like compound is anti-inflammatory and topically helps to break down dead tissue.
Polysaccharide
The long chain polysaccharide in Aloe Vera “Acemannan” is very delicate and therefore the manufacturing process should be as gentle as possible. Our patented cold stabilisation process, which does not involve either excessive filtration, concentration or excessive heat, leaves the sugar in the same state as it was in the plant.
It is not broken up by these processes which often occur in the whole leaf method of extraction and therefore if taken on an empty stomach first thing in the morning it will not be exposed to the enzymes and acid in the stomach as it passes through very quickly into the small bowel where specialised cells lining the wall of the gut are able to absorb it whole.
These cells are limited in number and therefore they can only absorb a certain amount of polysaccharide at any one time and so it is pointless to have too much of this sugar in any product; yet this is often put forward as a major selling point.
The ideal range of polysaccharide in any product should be 1200-1400mg/litre and Forever Living Products gel certainly covers this range so that the maximum amount of the sugar can be absorbed.
Whole Leaf compared with Filleted Aloe Vera
The whole leaf manufacturing process involves harvesting the whole plant rather than individual leaves and the process starts macerating the leaves including the rind and then requires increasing levels of filtration to remove the unwanted rind and the sap of the plant, often called the latex or aloin.
Towards the end of the process the material is passed through a charcoal (carbon) filter, which is extremely efficient at extracting the aloin but I wonder what else maybe extracted along with it, possibly even substances that we have not yet identified?
The important long chain sugars are often broken up by this process, which also often involves considerable heat again potentially damaging them.
Their disruption always reduces their beneficial actions. Occasionally whole leaf products are produced as tablets in which there is even more interference producing an ultimate product, which is far removed from the natural plant, as now the material has to be dried and compacted . They maybe cheap but they are certainly not as effective.

Q: Can diabetics take the Gel?
A: Yes, but it may improve the diabetes, necessitating less medication, so check blood or urine sugars more regularly and do it with the knowledge of a Diabetic Nurse or General Practitioner.
Q: Can transplant patients take Aloe Vera Gel?
A: Yes, as the effect on the Immune System is cancelled by the necessary immuno suppressant drugs these people have to take. They will benefit by improving their nutritional status.
Q: Is Aloe Vera helpful in disease of the nervous system, e.g. Epilepsy, M.S, Parkinson's Disease and Strokes?
A: No, except for nutritional effect although anecdotally several Parkinson's sufferers appear to benefit, but a specific reason cannot be given.
Q: Can children be given Aloe Vera Gel?
A: Yes, in proportional amounts, e.g. Adult amount over 12 years ½ adult amount 6-12 years ¼ adult amount 1-5 years
Q: Can I use Activator to help people with acute conjunctivitis?
A: The Activator can be used in the eyes diluted to half strength as an eye wash such as you find with Optrex. However, it is not recommended to be used in acute infections and such cases should be dealt with conventionally. I might also add that if the Activator is diluted for use as an eye wash then the additive should be sterile water.
Q: Can Activator be sprayed into the lungs to help Asthmatics?
A: No. It is not recommended for this purpose. I believe asthmatics are best helped by taking the Gel orally with possibly the addition of Bee Pollen to help combat allergies.
Q: I have a customer who has Colitis and has asked if we have a product that he could use as an enema?
A: No. Regrettably we have no product designed to be used as an enema and therefore they should not be recommended for this use although I have read in certain books of this being used in this way. I believe it is important for Distributors to understand that if they use a product in a way not recommended by the Company and something does go wrong, they would personally be liable. On the other hand if a product is being used correctly and there is a problem then the Company would step in and the Distributor would be covered by the Company's insurance umbrella.
Q: Can Activator be used to help sinus congestion?
A: Yes. It is something that I personally use and I find it extremely effective. I use it neat from an atomiser spray and it has quite a powerful effect. I think other people may prefer to dilute it with pure water.
Q: What helps an itchy skin?
A: Aloe Vera Gel often reduces the itchiness but topical Aloe First Spray or Gelly works very well, at least for a few hours. Remember, dry skin is often itchy so it can be improved by a moisturiser.
Q: Will Aloe Vera Gel help people with Coeliac Disease ?
A: Coeliac Disease is caused by sensitivity to gluten found in wheat flour, which leads to food malabsorption. Aloe Vera Gel will help in a general nutritional way but not specifically i.e. it will not influence the underlying cause. Please note that the Sorbitol in our Gel is derived from corn i.e. maize not wheat, so there is no problem here.
Q: Will our products help someone with Tinnitus?
A: Unfortunately not, as tinnitus is a disorder of the auditory nerve i.e. it does not involve epithelial tissue or the immune system. Tinnitus causes the individual to experience a constant buzzing or whistling sound in the ear. Occasionally it stops spontaneously but there is no effective treatment available.
Q: What are the best products to help Eczema sufferers?
A: Apart from Aloe Vera Gel which provides general skin nutrition, the best FLP products for Eczema are the greasy ones because eczematous skin is invariably dry. General dermatological principles apply - when skin is dry put grease on it, i.e. Aloe Propolis Creme and avoid all contact with soap, which removes grease from the skin, or when it is greasy put a drying agent on it such as Aloe Vera Gelly.
Q: Can Aloe Vera Gel help with Fibromyalgia?
A: Yes it certainly can, as fibromyalgia or fibrositis, as it was known, is a non-specific rheumatic condition in which muscles generally ache and develop exquisitely tender areas or trigger spots'. It often affects the shoulders. Aloe Vera's natural anti-inflammatory action both orally with the Gel and topically with the Heat Lotion should provide considerable benefit. As I haven't had much personal feedback on this condition, I'd welcome comments from any sufferers who have had good results with these products.
Q: How are our creams and lotions best applied?
A: Either twice or three times daily is sufficient. At each application, research has shown that the best penetrative effect is achieved by putting on the product, leaving it for about ten minutes and then repeating the process, i.e. apply it twice.
Q: Which is the best product for Athlete's Foot?
A: Any of the topical products may help, but the Gelly tube has to be the favourite as it ontains one of the highest percentages of aloe of our range and you need as much fungicidal activity as possible.
Q: Would people with Vitiligo recover their skin colour with Aloe Vera?
A: No. I'm afraid not, but as Vitiligo involves the spontaneous patchy loss of Melanin from the skin, these areas are very prone to sunburn and subsequent skin damage where exposed, so a suntan lotion is a must and because of our product's dual action it should do the job most efficiently.
